Classes in 2 Zambales towns, Olongapo suspended amid habagat rains

OLONGAPO City — Classes at all levels in both public and private schools in two Zambales towns were suspended again on Thursday, Sept. 3, due to the continuing inclement weather.

The local governments of Subic and Castillejos announced the cancellation of classes, a day after some Zambales municipalities had resumed classes following a brief respite from lashing monsoon rains.

In Olongapo, face-to-face classes in all levels in both public and private schools will also remain suspended on Thursday.

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said schools would shift to alternative learning protocols while the suspension remains in effect.

“Asahan po sa mga susunod na araw na magiging mas localized ang suspension ng mga pasok. Kukunsulta po tayo sa mga school heads ng mga public at private school para sa pinakabalanseng pagsuspend ng pasok,” Paulino said in his announcement

Classes in the city have been suspended since Wednesday (September 2) despite slightly improved weather conditions to allow schools and communities to conduct cleanup operations following recent flooding.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Zambales could receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rain due to the southwest monsoon until Saturday, Sept. 5. /dp
