Orcollo, De Luna make q’finals in Guinness Speed Ball Challenge

Dennis “Robocop” Orcollo blasted local bet Adolof Leunupun in the Round-of-16 with a five-rack total time of five minutes and 18 seconds versus the Indonesian’s time of 08:13 to become the first Filipino to enter the quarterfinals of the 2012 Guinness World Series of Pool: Speed Ball Challenge at the Ciputra World Mall in Surabaya, Indonesia yesterday.

Following suit was compatriot Jeffrey “The Bull” De Luna (05:00), who scored a similar easy win against Indonesian veteran Ricky Yang (05:38).

Orcollo, whose performance in day 2 was hampered by high fever, seemed to have recovered as he delivered a solid run during his head-to-head encounter with the Indonesian.

An impressive opening rack of 58 seconds from the Filipino ace set the tone for the victory.

Orcollo will take on another Indonesian, Cherry Suliawan, in the next round.

Suliawan defeated compatriot Iwan Saga, 05:58-07:49.

De Luna, on the other hand, will have his hands full in his quarterfinal clash against current world number one Darren Appleton, who scorched American top shooter Shane Van Boening, 04:33-05:09 in their top 16 matchup.

Earlier in the day, Blackburn native Karl Boyes put on a fantastic show to defeat his Indonesian counterpart Ferdi with a total time of 04:47 against 08:06.

Finland’s Mika Immonen followed suit with a 05:27 time against Muhammad Andre’s 06:28. Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
