Heavy rains to persist in parts of Luzon until Sunday, Aug. 30
MANILA, Philippines — Heavy rains were forecast to persist in parts of Luzon until Sunday, Aug. 30, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its heavy rainfall outlook as of 5 a.m. on Friday, Pagasa said these areas will experience the following rainfall levels:
Friday, Aug. 28
100 to 200 mm of rain
- La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, and Occidental Mindoro
50 to 100 mm of rain
- Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique

Saturday, Aug. 29
100 to 200 mm of rain
- La Union, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, and Occidental Mindoro

In the agency’s forecast on Friday morning, Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, continued to affect parts of Luzon.
Badrina also noted that the state weather bureau was monitoring a low pressure area within the Philippine area of responsibility, but it was forecast not to make landfall in the country. /mr /atm
