Oriental Mindoro schools provided with active shooting response tips
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office has issued safety reminders to students, teachers, and school personnel in responding to an active shooting incident, stressing the importance of staying alert, calm, and following authorities.
The police advised those who can safely escape from the danger area to leave immediately.
If going outside is unsafe, they should hide in a place that is not easily visible or accessible, lock the door if possible, stay away from windows and doors, remain quiet, `and put mobile phones on silent mode.

Those in a safe location should follow instructions from school personnel and responding authorities and provide police with relevant information about the incident once it is safe to do so.
The police also warned the public against approaching the area where the shooting is taking place, returning for personal belongings or to take photos or videos, making unnecessary noise, or gathering in exposed areas.
The Oriental Mindoro PPO likewise urged the public to rely only on confirmed information from authorities and avoid spreading unverified reports.
In a separate reminder concerning social media use during such emergencies, police urged the public to verify information before posting, commenting, or sharing it.
They also called for the protection of minors by not disclosing their names, faces or personal information, and urged users to avoid posting sensitive photos or videos of an incident.
Police said information shared online should come from reliable sources and should consider the welfare of victims, their families and the affected community.

The PPO also cautioned against sensationalizing incidents through clickbait headlines, misleading captions, or attempts to make an incident “viral.”
The police said the public should avoid speculating on the motive behind an attack, blaming individuals or sharing unconfirmed information.
“Sa oras ng panganib, ang tamang kaalaman at tamang pagkilos ay maaaring makapagligtas ng buhay,” the police said, urging the community to prioritize safety, listen to authorities, and help keep schools and communities safe.
