Tropical Depression ‘Goring’ leaves but rains to persist

Tropical Depression “Goring” on Sunday moved out of the Philippine area of responsibility en route to Taiwan but continued to boost the effects of the southwest monsoon, bringing rain showers all over Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau said Sunday.

In its last bulletin on Goring on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather system was spotted west northwest of the Philippines as of 11 a.m. Sunday.

Pacing northward at 10 kilometers per hour, Goring is forecast to be some 600 km north northwest of Basco, Batanes, by Monday morning, or around 170 km northwest of Taipei. The weather system maintained its strength at 55 kph.

The exiting Goring, however, continued to boost the southwest monsoon, bringing scattered rain showers over the western seaboard of Luzon and the Visayas.

“Goring will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring occasional rains to Luzon and the Visayas, becoming frequent over the western section which may trigger flash floods and landslides,” said Pagasa.

A low pressure area spotted off Mindanao has also dissipated as of Sunday morning, the weather bureau said.

Three Cebu Pacific domestic flights were canceled Sunday due to bad weather, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

In an advisory, the MIAA said the canceled flights were Flight No. 5J 893 (Manila-Caticlan) and Flight Nos. 5J 892 and 5J 894 (both Caticlan-Manila).

No incoming and outgoing international flights were affected by the weather condition, the MIAA also said.
