2 rookie cops injured after drunk driver rams Bukidnon checkpoint

VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — Two entry-level police patrolmen conducting a routine nighttime checkpoint along the national highway in Quezon, Bukidnon, were injured after being struck by a speeding locally hired vehicle, locally known as a “bao-bao,” on Saturday night, August 22, police confirmed on Monday.Traffic investigator PSSg. Jerry Nagac said the officers were stationed on the national highway holding a signboard as part of a 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. regular checkpoint operation.The vehicle, traveling from Poblacion toward Barangay Libertad, struck the frontline officers due to its high speed.

The impact knocked the long firearms out of the officers’ hands.

Both suffered physical injuries and were immediately rushed to a local hospital for treatment.The driver was detained at the Quezon police station and faces appropriate criminal charges along with Land Transportation Office (LTO) violations, according to Nagac.Both patrolmen were scheduled to undergo a CT scan on Monday to assess their condition following the crash./coa
