The National University Bulldogs blasted the University of the East Red Warriors, 90-55, in the opening game of the 75th UAAP basketball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Bulldogs were simply dominant as they proved to be too speedy and too deep for the Red Warriors to handle.
They had 28 points off fastbreak attacks in addition to the 34 huge markers that they received from their bench in the one-sided rout.
Jeoff Javillonar notched a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while reigning league MVP Bobby Ray Parks facilitated the offense with aplomb as he had 16 points and six dimes.
Another amazing stat that spoke well of NU’s cohesion were the 28 assists that they racked up.
UE had a fast start as it led, 15-13, after the first period behind the 10 points of Roi Sumang.
The tables were turned in the ensuing canto as Parks came alive and knocked down two trifectas which ignited a 12-2 run that put them on top, 25-17.
It was all downhill after that as the Bulldogs scored 13 unanswered points while Javillonar hit a three-pointer from the baseline at the baseline buzzer that erected a 48-23 lead.
Meanwhile, UE has filed a protest after the game against NU citing that some of the Bulldogs players had irregularities on their uniforms as some had patches on them while others didn’t.
The UAAP’s opening weekend continues as the Ateneo Blue Eagles face the Adamson Soaring Falcons, the only team that beat them last season.
