Japanese man to be deported
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will deport a Japanese national wanted in his country for banking and financial fraud. Taketoshi Hisada, 42, was arrested on July 1 outside the Japanese Embassy compound Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City by members of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (Fisu) who were armed with a mission order issued by Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. In a statement, David said he had the fugitive arrested upon the request of the embassy after he was informed that an arrest warrant had been issued against Hisada by a summary court in Nagoya, Japan. Hisada, who is also the subject of a blue notice from the Interpol, was found to be overstaying in the country. He was holding an expired passport upon his arrest by Fisu operatives led by Dan Salasim. The BI’s intelligence chief, lawyer Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, said Hisada had been hiding in the country since June 29, 2008, when he arrived in Manila as a tourist.—Jerome Aning
Woman drowns
A 50-year-old woman fell from the window of her house into a creek at the height of a heavy downpour on Saturday night. Police Officer 3 Gregorio Maramag of the Quezon City Police District said Yolanda Cañete, a resident of Himlayang Road, Barangay (village) Pasong Tamo, Quezon City, drowned. Maramag said Canete was standing near a window and talking to her daughter when she lost her balance, fell out of the window and into the creek.—Nancy C. Carvajal
