Araneta faces Yamit in MMA tonight
Thirteen mixed martial arts bouts highlight today’s Ground and Pound VI:Invincible fight card at the Cebu Coliseum.
The main event will feature Cebuano Mark “The Terminator” Araneta of the Mandaue United MMA taking on Butuan’s Lorde Rey “The Punisher” Yamit of the Butuan Extreme MMA.
The supporting main event pits Renan “Limbas” Noblefranca of Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu Top Team facing arch-nemesis Steve “D’ Lightning” Sevilleno of Team MUMMA-Manila for the YFCC bantamweight crown.
All four aforementioned fighters together with the others competing in the undercard made their weights yesterday in the official weigh in ceremony at the venue.
“I have great respect for Araneta. I know he trained hard and I also trained hard so let’s just see who will survive the war inside the ring,” said Yamit, who tipped the scales at 159 lbs., six pounds heavier than Araneta. Their bout has a catch weight of 150-159 lbs.
“Both of us are aiming for a knockout and both of us are prepared for this fight. So may the best man win,” said Araneta, who sports a 5-2 (win-loss) record. All of his wins were via stoppage. Yamit parades a 7-3 card backed with 5KOs.
Noblefranca, meanwhile, is fresh from an impressive win against Bullet Muay Thai’s Leo Rodrigo last June. He weighed in at 116 lbs. while Sevellino came at 118 lbs.
FOUNDER VS. FOUNDER
Another bout to watch out for in this Games and Amusements Board-sanctioned card is the fight of Soma Kickboxing Club founder Allan “The Dancing Man” Epile and Durex Dragon KBC founder Ben “Durex Warrior” Torbiso.
Aside from Noblefranca, other members of the Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu Top Team will also be fighting against different opponents.
Keith “Ice” Acapulco will take on Ryan Salomon, Roel “Akiyama” Rosauro will mix it up with Israel Gomez, Lemuel “Musang” Maglinte will debut against Zoren Pescador.
The rest of the card pits James Roiles of Yaw-Yan Hurricane vs. Carlos Mabilin of Team MUMMA, Ronilo Esfra of Arcomjukai vs. Jonathan Esquierdo; Dodong Jagare of Red Dragon MMA vs. Urtych Alarin of Butuan Extreme MMA; Nelson Navarete vs. Brian Paciete; and Kirk Florida of ATC Club vs. Teoderic Batuon.
Tickets are priced at P150 for upper box, P300 for lower box, P500 for ringside and P1,000 for the VIP section.
