LPP, PFP blast ambush on BARMM chief

KORONADAL CITY – The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) and the administration party Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) have deplored the ambush on Bangsamoro interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua last Saturday afternoon.

South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo, president of both the LPP and PFP, said both associations detested the attack on Macacua’s convoy, backing the investigation ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on the incident.

 He said the LPP and PFP are appealing for unity and restraint as the political situation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) heats up in the run down to its historic parliamentary elections on Sept. 14.

Tamayo said political groups participating in the region’s upcoming regional elections should not allow personal interests and political rivalries to undermine the gains of the Bangsamoro peace process.“Do not let this be mixed with politics or personal interests,” he said, warning that such actions could diminish the sacrifices of those who died for the Bangsamoro cause.He said the upcoming BARMM election would be the first since the creation of the region, describing it as a milestone achieved through years of struggle and sacrifices of the Bangsamoro people.

Tamayo said the responsibility now rests on the people of BARMM to continue the struggle through peaceful means and ensure that the sacrifices of their predecessors would not be wasted.He stressed that the interest of the greater public should prevail over individual interests, particularly as BARMM moves toward its first regional election. /mr
