Canadian hurt in suicide try

A CANADIAN national allegedly tried to kill himself by slashing his neck in his house in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu.

Police said the suicide attempt happened after the Canadian national (name withheld) and his Filipina wife fought over financial matters.

Police said the couple went to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk of the Minglanilla police precinct around 1 p.m. last Thursday where the woman complained that the foreigner grabbed her right arm when they argued.

PO2 Nikki Carlo Plarisan said the couple settled their differences at the station.

Plarisan said the couple went home on a motorcycle driven by their driver.

Police said the foreigner offered to bring his wife to her work. When the woman refused, the couple argued again that forced the woman to disembark at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The wife returned to the police station and called a neighbor over phone to check if her husband was at home.

The wife, accompanied by police, rushed home after she was told that the foreigner threatened to kill himself.

When the wife arrived, the foreigner locked himself up in the toilet.

Police forced open the door and saw the wounded Canadian who was later brought to a hospital in Cebu City./REPORTER RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
