Heavy rains prompt class suspensions across Oriental Mindoro

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Fifteen local governments in Oriental Mindoro have suspended classes in public and private schools on Tuesday ( Aug. 18), as rains brought by the southwest monsoon continued to affect the province.

Among the municipalities and cities that announced class suspensions were:

• Puerto Galera – kindergarten to senior high School, public and private
• San Teodoro – kindergarten to senior high school
• Baco – kindergarten to senior high school
• Calapan City – kindergarten to senior high school
• Naujan – kindergarten to senior high school, including Colegio de Naujan
• Victoria – kindergarten to senior high school
• Socorro – kindergarten to senior high school
• Pola – all levels
• Pinamalayan – all levels
• Gloria – kindergarten to senior high school
• Bansud – all levels
• Bongabong – kindergarten to senior high school
• Roxas – all levels
• Mansalay – kindergarten to senior high school
• Bulalacao – all levels 

The suspensions were ordered by the respective chief executives amid continued rainfall associated with the Habagat.

Residents were advised to remain alert for possible flooding, landslides and other hazards, particularly in low-lying and landslide-prone communities. /dp
