THE Cebu Dynamic Youth, a non-profit organization comprised of members of the Filipino-Chinese community, is once again celebrating the Su Qing Festival, now running on its third year.
It will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cebu Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce building.
Inspired by the enthusiasm of and positive feedback from participating schools offering the Chinese curriculum during last year’s Su Qing festival, the organization has come up with three events for this year — choral competition, singing contest and cheerdance competition — contests that would instill appreciation for the significance of Chinese in the Philippine setting.
The choral competition is open to students enrolled in Grades 1 to 4. Each school may only be represented by one choir, consisting of 12 to 14 members. The song should be in Chinese Mandarin and its duration must be within 4 to 6 minutes.
The singing contest is open to students enrolled in Grades 5 and 6. Each school may send in a maximum of 2 contestants. Any 3- to 5-minute long Chinese Mandarin song may be performed. The cheerdance competition is open to students enrolled in high school. Participation is limited to one entry per school with each squad consisting of at least 24 to 30 members. Cheers should be in Chinese Mandarin, and routines should last no less than five minutes and no more than seven minutes. Uniforms and props shall be made from recycled materials and in accordance with the theme “Save Mother Earth.”
