ILOILO CITY, Philippines—Policemen confiscated around 70 kilos of marijuana bricks estimated to be worth at least P840,000 in an entrapment operation in Iloilo City on Friday.
The haul was the biggest in the city in recent years, said Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio, Iloilo City police director.
Valerio said two suspected drug couriers were arrested in the entrapment operation at the Alta Tierra Village residential area in Jaro District at noon Friday.
He identified them as Remus Aception, 23, a resident of Barangay San Juan in Molo District, and Michael Segutier, 23, of Barangay Infante, also in Iloilo City.
The two suspects were contacted by a police operative who pretended to be a buyer. They arrived from Manila by bus on board a roll-on-roll-off ship with three large traveling bags containing the marijuana bricks.
Valerio said they were fetched by the police operative at the bus terminal in Barangay Tagbak in Jaro around 11 a.m. and taken to the subdivision where policemen from the “Task Force Boulevard” of the Iloilo City Police Office intercepted the vehicle and arrested the suspects.
The two suspects are believed to be part of a big drug syndicate that supplies marijuana to wholesalers.
“They usually dispense their stocks within the day through their network,” Valerio said.
Intelligence operatives had learned of the marijuana shipments from Manila to Iloilo and launched a surveillance operation several months ago.
