LUCENA CITY – Six local government units in the provinces of Cavite, Batangas and Rizal have suspended face-to-face classes in public and private schools on Thursday (August 13), due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon. 

In Cavite, Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua and Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla announced class suspensions at all levels in their respective localities.

In a separate advisory, Chua said students were urged to remain at home to prevent them from getting sick and to ensure the safety of their families.

The local government of General Trias City, also in Cavite, suspended face-to-face classes in public and private schools due to the rains. 

In Rizal province, Taytay Mayor Allan de Leon ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students, teachers, school personnel and their families.

“However, schools are encouraged to continue the learning process through Alternative Modes of Delivery of Learning, in accordance with their capacity and existing guidelines,” De Leon said in his order.

Meanwhile, the Batangas provincial government’s Public Information Office said the municipalities of Balayan and Calatagan have also suspended face-to-face classes and would shift to online learning.

In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the southwest monsoon would continue to prevail over most parts of Luzon on Thursday. /dp
