Body of second missing boy retrieved from Cagayan River

TUGUEGARAO CITY- The body of a 13-year-old boy, the second of two drowning victims, was retrieved from the churning waters of the Cagayan River on Tuesday afternoon, according to rescuers from Enrile town. 

Gian Agpalasin, 13, and his friend, Jhony Baquiran, also 13, drowned when they swam and dove into the river with six other companions on Monday.

The students allegedly skipped classes by climbing their school fence and enjoyed a swimming spree on the Cagayan River.

Agpalasin’s remains were turned over to his relatives in San Roque, Enrile town.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, the body of Baquiran was found floating off the Cagayan River in Maddarulug Sur, Enrile town.  

Don Erickson Orje, Enrile’s municipal disaster risk reduction management officer, had cautioned villagers and students to avoid bathing or swimming in the waters without adult supervision.

Enrile Mayor Miguel Decena Jr. has restricted access to the river and called for a “full fact-finding investigation” of the incident./coa
