NDRRMC: Death toll from habagat, storms rises to 19
MANILA, Philippines — The death toll from the combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat) and tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay (international name: Kujira) reached 19, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Data shared by the NDRRMC showed that the following fatalities were recorded so far as of 6 a.m. on August 11:
Benguet
- Nine dead in Baguio City due to landslide
- Two dead in La Trinidad due to landslide
- One dead in Atok due to landslide
Rizal
- Two dead in Rodriguez due to landslide
- One dead in Antipolo City due to fallen tree
- One dead in Binangonan due to drowning
Batangas
- One dead in Batangas City due to drowning
- One dead in Lipa City due to electrocution
- One dead in Santa Teresita due to landslide
The NDRRMC also recorded 15 injuries so far:
Benguet
- Eight injured in Baguio City due to landslide
- Two injured in La Trinidad due to landslide
- One injured in Kapangan due to vehicular accident
- One injured in Atok due to landslide
Rizal
- One injured in Rodriguez due to strong current
Cavite
- One injured in Naic due to vehicular accident
Further, the NDRRMC recorded four missing persons amid the inclement weather: two in Baguio City due to a landslide; one in Atok, Benguet also due to a landslide; and one in Batangas province, but the reason was unspecified.
The agency also said at least 2.27 million people were affected by the onslaught of the weather systems in the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and Cordillera Administrative Region.
The NDRRMC monitored at least 94,997 persons taking shelter inside 919 evacuation centers across the affected regions.
It added that at least 684 houses were reported to be damaged, of which 45 were totally damaged and 639 were partially damaged.
The agency further noted that the total value of the infrastructure damaged was now at P1.45 billion; and the total value of the agriculture damaged was now P135.33 million.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said at least P73.52 million worth of humanitarian and financial assistance was provided by government agencies so far. /mr
