Manila suspends classes on Tuesday, Aug. 11 amid expected rainfall

MANILA, Philippines — Classes in the City of Manila on Tuesday, Aug. 11, have been suspended due to inclement weather brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced the suspension on Facebook, saying that the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MCDRRMD) recommended the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools.

According to Domagoso, three of five weather models indicate moderate to heavy rainfall due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, or Habagat.

He also pointed out that the latest outlook from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) confirmed the likelihood of rainfall ranging from light to moderate, at times heavy, particularly in the early morning and afternoon.

“Schools are advised to shift to ADM or Alternative Delivery Mode,” Domagoso said.

Across Metro Manila, classes have also been suspended in Marikina City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, and Caloocan City. /jpv
