Palace suspends work, classes in NCR, 6 provinces on Wed afternoon

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang suspended government work and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region, Abra, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan and Zambales on Wednesday afternoon.

This is due to continuous heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon.

The suspension took effect at 3 p.m. on August 5, 2026, under Memorandum Circular No. 121 issued by the Office of the President.

The order was based on the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

“Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services are hereby directed to continue their operations and render the necessary services,” it read.

Meanwhile, local chief executives in other areas may implement localized cancellations or suspensions of classes and/or work in government offices as they deem necessary.

The suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their heads. /apl
