PNP goes zero tolerance against illegal logging

07:40 AM July 12, 2012

ALTHOUGH illegal logging is not rampant in Central Visayas, the Police Region Office 7 declared a a one-strike policy for police personnel who abet the problem.

The order of  Supt. Marcelo Garbo, regional police chief,  is in response to President Benigno Aquino III’s policy  that the government will no longer tolerate illegal logging.

Garbo said police commanders who fail to seize illegal logs and arrest illegal loggers will be relieved from their posts if another PNP unit confirms the existence of illegal logging in his area  through a successful operation.

Garbo said Central Visayas, which has several ports,  is a “recipient” of illegal logs shipped in from from Mindanao, specifically in Region XIII or the Caraga region./Reporter Rhea Ruth V. Rosell
