MANILA, Philippines — A super typhoon outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has weakened into a typhoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday afternoon.

According to Pagasa in an advisory, Super Typhoon Dolphin weakened into a typhoon at around 8 a.m.

It was tracked some 3,285 kilometers (km) east of extreme Northern Luzon, packong a maximum sustained wind speed of 175 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 215 kph while moving west -northwest at 25 kph.

Due to its distance, Pagasa said Dolphin currently has no direct effect on any part of the country.

“Mas magiging concern natin sa mga susunod na araw ang habagat na posibleng palakasin ni bagyong Dolphin pumasok man ito ng PAR o hindi,” Pagasa weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said.

(We will be more concerned in the coming days with the southwest monsoon, which could possibly be strengthened by Typhoon Dolphin, whether or not it enters PAR.) /gsg
