Pole to bundle spaghetti wirings

A 45-METER post will be set up along the Capitol area to somehow resolve the problem of spaghetti wires, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said last week.

In an interview after the inauguration of projects in Carcar City last Thursday, Garcia said the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) agreed to set up the post where other utilities can bundle and hang their wires on.

She said the Philippine Long Distance Co. (PLDT), Smart Telecommunications, Globe Telecommunications and Bayantel committed to solve the problem.  Garcia said these utilities are conducting an inventory of all their wirings.

“From Capitol to Fuente O., the view will improve and what’s good about this is that the sidewalks will be done on a volunteer basis by nine contractors,” Garcia said.

The firms signified their participation in the Capitol’s beautification project. The project done in tandem with the Cebu City government will cover the Capitol area down to Fuente Osmeña Rotunda.

Duros, WTG, Socor, Orsamiento, Pragmatic, Barsteel, Rovilla, Maningo and Supreme ABF will provide materials and personnel to construct the nine blocks leading to the Fuente Osmeña Circle.

Last month, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Governor Garcia and philanthropist Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung opened the sidewalk near Fuente Osmeña Rotunda in simple rites.

Maroon bricks on a wide sidewalk were intended to recreate the Spanish-era-styled beautification of Cebu City’s streets and landmarks.
