MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday opened the Philippines’ first interactive energy museum at the Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Center in Taguig City.

The museum transforms complex energy concepts into engaging and accessible learning experiences for the public.

“It is immersive and interactive, and features exhibits on the country’s diverse energy resources and technologies— solar, geothermal, wind, hydro, natural gas, energy storage, and slowly nuclear energy,” Marcos said in his speech.

“To every young Filipino who walks through these pods and sees an engineer, a geoscientist, a policy analyst reflected in these exhibits, I say: This could be you. This is the future of the Philippines that will be built by the students who will visit or stand in this museum,” he also said.

The event also coincided with the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira), which restructured the power industry by separating generation, transmission, and distribution while opening the sector to competition under the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Marcos renewed his call to amend the law, a proposal he first raised during his State of the Nation Address on Monday.

“During my last Sona the other day, I asked Congress to amend the Epira to remove the charging of system loss to consumers, including the corresponding VAT [value added tax],” he said.

“It is only fair that Filipino families pay for what electricity they use—not for inefficiencies that really are beyond their control,” he continued. /mr
