More farmers adopt modern technologies, says NFA  

MANILA, Philippines — More farmers are embracing modern farm machinery and technologies as the government pushes to boost agricultural productivity, National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Larry Lacson said Tuesday.

Lacson said farmers have responded positively to the government’s push to introduce new technologies and farming techniques aimed at increasing crop yields. 

“I think they are gradually accepting these new technologies,” he said in an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public affairs program on government network.

His remarks came after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reported in his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Monday that the country has sustained growth in food production since 2023.

The chief executive cited higher yields recorded in major crops such as palay, corn and sugarcane.

Lacson also said that the NFA is continuing to strengthen the country’s rice buffer stock by expanding its storage capacity and increasing funds for palay procurement.

“If we have a good buffer stock, it means our supplies are more secure during calamities and emergencies,” he noted.

According to Lacson, because of the additional storage facilities, the NFA can accommodate larger volumes of palay, enabling it to maintain a more secure rice supply during calamities and other emergencies.
