WOMAN SHOT

A FEMALE jeepney dispatcher was shot and wounded in barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City, past noon yesterday.

Although the woman identified only as Jessica was shot in a busy street, no one claimed to have seen the assailant, said police.

Vendors in the area told police that bursts of gunfire were heard before the woman was found slumped on the corners of M.C. Briones and Jakosalem Streets.

Police said the woman, who suffered a gunshot wound in the back, stayed slumped on the ground for several minutes as she was not brought to the hospital until paramedics from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) arrived.

COLLECTOR ROBBED

A STORE collector reported to the police that he was robbed at gunpoint in barangay Ward 2, Minglanilla town,  southern Cebu, last Friday night.

Noel Beronio, 27, worker of VA Marketing, told police that he and two co-workers had just delivered softdrinks in a store when they were robbed by two motorcycle-riding men.

Beronio said he was forced to give P6,000 in collection money after one of the two men pointed a gun at him.

BOY DROWNS

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy drowned while swimming in the waters off barangay Kulasi, Samboan town, southern Cebu, on Friday afternoon.

Police said the body of the boy was found floating an hour after he was reported missing.

Responding police still brought the boy to the town’s hospital where he was declared dead.

Investigation will be made to find out if there was foul play involved in the boy’s death, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

MAN FOUND DEAD

A 31-YEAR-OLD man was found hanging by the neck in his house in barangay Lahug, Cebu City.

Depression over his failure to find a job may have driven Ruel Calahatan Batulan to hang himself, said police.

A nylon rope was tied around the victim’s neck with the other end attached to the beam of the kitchen of the house, said police.

The man had been looking for a job since he was taking care of his ailing grandmother, police said.
