MANILA, Philippines—Vice President Jejomar Binay joined the nation in mourning for the death of the King of Comedy, Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon, saying Dolphy should be remembered for the happiness he brought to the Filipino people.

“For many decades, he brought joy to the hearts of the Filipino people.  As much as we wanted, needed, and hoped for more time to spend with him, he is now with our Creator in a place without suffering. It is only fitting that we remember Dolphy for the happiness he brought into our lives,” Binay said in a statement Wednesday.

The veteran actor-comedian died Tuesday night following cardiac arrest.

Binay said that Dolphy also served as an inspiration to millions of ordinary Filipinos, and became one of the pillars “not only of the entertainment industry but of Philippine arts and culture.”

“In spite of his success, he remained humble and loyal to his friends and shared his blessings with the less fortunate,” Binay said. Fat Reyes
