Cebu riders dominate Bohol 40k m’bike race

Danao, Bohol—Cebuano mountainbikers ruled the first 40k Columbia MTB XC Race yesterday while a Danao, Bohol native dominated the Men’s Novice Sportsclimbing Competition held  at the Danao Adventure Park here.

Members of the Niña Egg Farm team of Cebu dominated the various categories of the first-ever cross-country mountainbike survival race that is part of the festivities held in line with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the municipality of Danao.

Mountainbikers of the Niña Egg Farm shut out their opponents in the senior (30 to 39 years old) category with Rolly Kabaluna crossing the finish line first.

Trailing him at second was Ramonito Espinosa while salvaging third place was Adonis Bohol.

Niña Egg Farm members also dominated in the junior (21 to 30) category with siblings Jude Mar and Marjun Villarosa placing first and second, respectively. Boholano  Aljorad Candawan of Team Sagbayan took third place honors.

Boholanos also made their presence felt with Paseo de Loon’s Joseph Rabida taking the top plum in the 16 to 20 years old category. Second place went to Roy Carbonera of Niña Egg Farm while Jiven Pojas of Team Sagbayan Recycle Bike clinched third place.

The masters (40plus) category was topped by Boholanos Antonio Beroneo and Pablo Angcog of Paseo de Loon, who placed first and second, respectively. Third place went to Mario Cacang of Tagbilaran’s Team Attack.

A total of 37 participants took part in the  race. Race director for the event was Bong Clarin.

In the sportsclimbing competition, Edgar Bantilan made his fellow Danao natives proud as he became the only climber to have tap out at the 28-foot wall in 40.30 seconds.

Bantilan consistently put his opponents in the shade by also finishing first in the eliminations and semifinals.

Second place went to Robert Lapt, who climbed 7.2 feet in 55.15 seconds while third place went to Carlo Ceasar San Pablo.

The race director for the event was Roy Doller.

The sporting activities were organized by the Adventure Support Services (ASS) based in Tagbilaran in cooperation with the Danao local government and the Danao Adventure Park.
