DPWH issues road, travel advisory in CAR
MANILA, Philippines — Several roads and bridges in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) were closed and limited on Thursday, July 16, due to rough road conditions, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported in an advisory.
In Benguet, a portion of the Baguio-Itogon Road along Sitio Goldfield, Barangay Poblacion, Itogon is reduced to one lane due to the mudflow, according to the DPWH. It added that the mentioned lanes will be automatically closed during heavy rainfall, advising motorists to take the Ucab-Midas Road as an alternative route.

The agency also reported road restrictions in Abra, Apayao, and Kalinga due to mudflow, road slips, fallen debris, and damaged bridge structures. Several highways and bridges in the area are either operating under one-lane traffic or limited to light vehicles.
Some bridges in Apayao and Kalinga remain accessible only to light vehicles, DPWH stated.
Meanwhile, Makilo Bailey Bridge and Aliog Bridge are limited to vehicles weighing up to five tons, prohibiting long-bodied vehicles from passing. Heavy vehicles traversing along Aliog Bridge on the other hand are advised to take the Bulo National Road as an alternate route, DPWH said.
DPWH listed other affected routes as follows:
- Abra Ilocos Sur Road, Apayao (Calanasan)-Ilocos Norte Road
- Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road
- Kabugao-Luna-Cagayan Boundary Road
- Ayaga-Sta. Marcela-Flora-Lasam Road
- Pico-Lamtang Road
- Bagui-Bontoc Road
- Mt. Province Boundary-Calanan-Abbut Road
- Manuel S. Agyao Boulevard.
It further urged motorists to slow down, follow traffic advisories, and to remain alert as hazards may still be present along affected roads.
The southwest monsoon, or habagat, and tropical cyclone Inday, internationally named Bavi, previously affected Northern Luzon.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in a weather advisory on Thursday that the southwest monsoon may intensify and bring heavy rainfall over Northern and Central Luzon in the coming weekend. (Rendell Manuel, trainee, INQUIRER.net) /mr
