Ginebra’s Caguioa named week’s best in PBA
IT MAY HAVE been import Cedric Bozeman who won the game for the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings but it was fiery wingman Mark “The Spark” Caguioa’s game-long brilliance that set the stage for the former’s heroics in their 87-85 win over the Petron Blaze Boosters during their semifinal matchup last Sunday in the PBA Governor’s Cup.
For that, Caguioa was named as the Player of the Week for the period July 2 to 8 as he scored 25 points and had six assists in that cliffhanger of a game.
Those outputs were a nice bounceback for Caguioa, who had just 10 points in their 89-76 win over the Meralco Bolts earlier in the week.
Still, it allowed him to finish with averages of 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists to emerge as the most consistent local in the week that was.
Caguioa’s numbers also came at the most opportune of times as he scored eight points and had three dimes in the fourth canto.
Those victories pushed Ginebra’s overall record to 7-4 (win-loss), good for just a half-a-game deficit to second-running B-Meg. Two more wins and Ginebra is assured of at least playing off for the second finals slot. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
