Truck falls into ravine; 1 killed, 23 others injured
A woman was killed while 23 others, mostly high school students, were injured when on late Sunday afternoon, an Isuzu cargo truck fell into a ravine in a mountain barangay (village) of Tabuelan town, some 86.9 kilometers northwest of Cebu City.
Police and hospital authorities said Nenita Avenido, a resident of Tabuelan, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Barangay Damolog, Sogod town. Avenido died from internal hemorrhage.
Avenido’s husband, Armando, was among of the 23 patients who were brought to the Sogod and Tuburan hospitals. The injured included students from Bongon.
Police said the truck owned by former Tabuelan Vice Mayor Silvestre Momo is used to deliver rice, soft drinks and beer in Bongon. On its return, the cargo truck was also used to carry copra.
Some students hitched a ride because the barangay is around 18 kilometers to the town proper. The students usually go to the town on Sunday afternoon. Jhunnex Napallacan, Inquirer Visayas
