MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo flip-flopped on his earlier pronouncement that negotiations have been ongoing for the release of a Jordanian journalist and two Filipino TV crew held by Abu Sayyaf bandits in Sulu.
In an interview on Monday, Robredo denied having earlier said there were talks to secure the freedom of Baker Abdulla Atyani, chief of Al-Arabiya News Network’s TV bureau, and Filipino cameraman Ramelito Vela and audio man Rolando Letrero. The three were reported missing last June 12.
Robredo told reporters that no negotiations have been taking place, noting their policy against ransom payments.
He also denied that any ransom demand was made.
