Security guard found shot dead in bank armory in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines—A security guard allegedly burdened with financial problems was found dead Saturday night in an apparent suicide inside the armory of a bank located at a compound in Quezon City, a police report said.

Senior Police Officer 1 Eric Lazo of the Quezon City Police District identified the victim as Alfredo Surian, 42, a security guard of the Gamilla Security Agency.

Lazo said the guard supposedly shot himself around 8:50 p.m. inside the armory of a bank where he worked, the investigator said.

Another security guard, Santiago Tabao, who found the suicide’s body, told police he was at his post on the rooftop of the bank, when he heard a gunshot coming from the driveway of the building.

He said he decided to check it out and saw blood flowing from the security armory.

The security guard said he took a look through the window of the armory and saw the victim’s body, with face lying down and with an M16 rifle near the foot of the suicide.

Tabao told police he tried to open the armory’s door but it was locked from the inside.

The accounts of other security guards indicated the victim was having financial and family problems.
