A veteran runner and a newbie stole the spotlight in yesterday’s Run for Pinoy Glory of Summit Natural Drinking Water at the Fort San Pedro grounds.
Sandra Soliano and multi-titled Adonis Singson won top honors in the premier 21k division. Soliano timed 1 hour 42 minutes and 14 seconds while Singson crossed the finish line in 1:25.23 to break a series of third place finishes in local races.
Madelyn Carter finished second in 1:44.10 followed by Tessie Escasinas at third (1:57.55). Emeralde Hermosilia (1:59.14) and Lucille Ruiz (1:59.49) rounded out the top five finishers in the women’s 21k.
Kenyan runners, who dominated local races were no shows yesterday after organizers decided not to award cash to be able to raise funds for the Filipino Paralympians competing in the London Paralympics this August. Winners received tokens.
Singson was trailed by Paul James Zafico (1:27.24) in second spot followed by Leo Abello at third (1:30.47). Michael Claudio (1:32.34) and Romulo Rosell (1:33.45) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Singson placed third in the recent DYAB Kapamilya Run and the Hunat Sugbo 2 which were all 21k races.
Michael Largo topped the 16k race in 1:27.24 followed by Alvirg Busa (1:13.33) and Jovanie Bordado (1:15.52).
Multi-awarded trail runner Merlita Arias Dunkin took the women’s title in 1:17.03 followed by University of Cebu (UC) trackster Sheena Gacayan (1:24.43) and Hannah Galo (1:35.16).
Robert Daang ruled the 12k race with a time of 45 mins. and nine seconds while Virgita Soco topped the distaff side in 1:13.33.
Sebuente Codera (48.22) and Ricky Abalayan (50.14) finished second and third respectively in the men’s 12k Coleen Digmaan (1:15.52) and Rose Caballero (1:24.43) took runner-up honors in the women’s division.
Joel Delposo and Angelle Lawas placed first in the 5k race in 17:23 and 24:38 respectively while Roselle Ardiente of UC and Mary Joy Loberanis topped the 3k male and female events in 11:46 and 14:37 respectively.
According to race director Joel Juarez the run drew around a thousand runners.
“I can say its a success since we never encountered any problems from hydration to the marshals,” Juarez said adding that Summit will return in November possibly for another running event.
