DANAO CITY — President Benigno Aquino III witnessed the signing of the coalition agreement between his Liberal Party and Danao City Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III’s local party Barug Alang sa Kauswagan Ug Demokrasya or Bakud.
Aquino attended the ceremonies at Nito Durano’s residence in Barangay (village) Guinsay and on occasion of the vice mayor’s 64th birthday.
Transportation Secretary Manuel Roxas II, the LP president, also swore in Nito Durano as a member of the ruling party during the activities.
“I’m very honored that I have the President of the Philippines as a guest on my birthday,” Durano told reporters in an interview.
Durano said it was the Liberal Party that invited Bakud to be a coalition partner in the 2013 elections.
“I believe personally in the program of government of President Noynoy [the President’s nickname] Aquino and the LP’s 16-point agenda,” Nito Durano said.
The Danao City vice mayor is the father of former Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, who served under the previous administration.
