IT was the monthly meeting of the Cebu League of Mayors , a good forum to ask support for one’s political campaign.
That’s what One Cebu gubernatorial aspirant Rep. Pablo John Garcia did when he dropped by the meeting on Thursday in the Casino Español..
The league’s president, his brother Mayor Nelson Garcia of Dumanjug denied that the congressman was soliciting support.
He said the mayors weren’t asked to sign anything or declare their support.
“He just mentioned his intention to run for Cebu governor and that he would continue whatever are the projects of our sister (Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia) if he wins,” said Nelson.
Nelson said his brother dropped by the monthly meeting of the Cebu chapter of the League of Mayors of the Philippines (LMP) so they let him speak.
About 20 Of the 44 members of the LMP-Cebu attended the noon meeting.
This included mayors of Cebu’s 5th district, bailiwick of the Bakud party of the Duranos.
Bakud has cut its ties with One Cebu and forged an alliance with the Liberal Party. .
The announcement coincides with President Aquino III’s visit today to Danao City. Nelson said the mayors listened to his brother but were not asked to endorse Pablo John.
Nelson also said he believed that mayors of the 5th district will still support the gubernatorial bid of Pablo John despite the alliance of Bakud and LP which endorsed the tandem of Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
Nelson said the alliance doesn’t make the mayors members of LP. Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
