DPWH flags delayed flood control project in PGH

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday discovered another delayed flood control project, this time within the premises of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

DPWH Sec. Vince Dizon himself saw the delayed project during an inspection held at the premier state-owned teaching hospital.

The project was found to have been only 16 percent completed, despite construction starting way back December 2024.

“The President said that our people deserve better than this. This is very important because it concerns the PGH,” Dizon lamented during the inspection.

“As you can see, so many people come here every day. The rainy season is approaching again, and this area will be flooded once more,” he added.

The PGH’s location is specifically known to be one of the more easily-flooded spots along Taft Avenue in Manila, making the project especially important during the wet season.

INQUIRER has already asked the DPWH what measures it would plan to take to address the delay, but has yet to receive a response as of writing. /mr
