POWERHOUSE FC Fortune scored a come-from-behind semifinal win over Park N’ Go, 113-111, Tuesday night to barge into the championship round of the 2011 Power 40 Commissioner’s Cup basketball tournament at the Emilio Jaca Memorial gym in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
FC Fortune will meet Van System of Billy Nacario in the final after the latter tripped Allyn Farm, 88-85. The winner-take-all final is slated this Tuesday.
Park N’ Go led by single digits in the first three quarters and had its biggest lead of nine points, 86-75 at the end of the third canto behind former SWU Cobra Michael Arias and triggerman Jingjing Rama.
FC Fortune finally caught up with Park N’ Go in the waning moments of the fourth and with 7.3 seconds remaining, Gogo Fuentes nailed a booming triple that pegged the final score at 113-111.
Mario Tabar and Roro Fuentes powered FC Fortune with 19 and 17 points, respectively with four other teammates scoring in double figures: Melvin Caumeran (16), Teody Ebrado (15), Dodong Piezas (14) and Efren Mosqueda (12).
Arias paced Park N’ Go with a record-high 50 points while Jingjing Rama added 20 markers.
In the other game, Van System trailed most of the way until Ed Nacario’s layup tied the count at 85-all with 23 seconds left in regulation. Then with just eight seconds remaining, Kaka Cabatas canned the game-winning triple from an assist dished by Romy Montuiz.
Former SIT slotman Jun Sumargo and Cecil Cabaluna powered Van System with 27 and 12 points, respectively while Joel Cañete and Cards Vernaiz paced Allyn Farm with 35 and 30 points, respectively.
