Emergency medical team arriving in quake-hit Glan, Sarangani on Sunday
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT) will arrive in Glan, Sarangani on Sunday, June 14, with specialized medical personnel and water filtration equipment for residents affected by the deadly magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Saturday.
According to the DOH, the PEMAT will come from the DOH – Cotabato Regional Medical Center.
The PEMAT is a self-sustaining team providing medical assistance and public health services.

“Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa confirmed, in line with the directive of President [Ferdinand] Marcos Jr., that the Philippine Emergency Medical Assistance Team (PEMAT) of DOH Cotabato Regional Medical Center (DOH CRMC) will arrive in Glan, Sarangani on Sunday, June 14, 2026,” DOH spokesperson and undersecretary Dr. Albert Domingo said in a statement in Filipino.
Domingo noted that the PEMAT will consist of two surgeons, two obstetrician-gynecologists, two emergency medicine specialists, two anesthesiologists, two pediatricians, and one internist.
The team will be supported by 17 nurses, two midwives, two radiation technologists, one medical technologist, one physical therapist, one mental health specialist, biomedical and electrical engineer, and administrative staff.
Domingo noted that the PEMAT will bring medicines for diarrhea and a “gravity-powered ultrafiltration unit” that can provide thousands of liters of clean and drinkable water.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani at 7:37 a.m. last June 8, with tsunami warnings issued in the Philippines, which were later on lifted.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Friday, upon validation, the death toll is 46, while 688 individuals were injured and 38 are still missing. /gsg

In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.

The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
