LTO revokes, suspends licenses of over 800 rogue drivers

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended or revoked more than 800 driver’s licenses since October last year as part of its campaign to improve road discipline and ensure public safety.

In a statement on Friday, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said 434 driver’s licenses had been revoked while 396 had been suspended since he assumed office.

The crackdown aims to improve road discipline, prevent accidents, and ensure public safety, according to Lacanilao.

“It is part of our responsibilities to enforce traffic laws, and this is just one of the concrete achievements of the LTO,” he said.

Of the 434 revoked licenses, 325 were canceled for two years, 15 for four years, and 94 were permanently revoked.

Meanwhile, the 396 suspended licenses included 23 with one-month suspensions, 290 with three-month suspensions, seven with six-month suspensions, one with a seven-month suspension, and 75 with one-year suspensions.

“This demonstrates the agency’s continued efforts to promote responsible driving and strict compliance with traffic laws in the interest of road safety,” Lacanilao said.
