Magnitude 5.5 aftershock hits Davao Occidental on June 11
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off Davao Occidental Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The agency identified the quake as an aftershock of the June 8, 2026, magnitude 7.8 offshore Sarangani earthquake.

The aftershock struck 67 kilometers (km) southwest of Balut Island in Sarangani town, Davao Occidental at around 9:56 a.m.
It had a depth of focus of 10 km and was tectonic in nature.
On Monday, a 7.8 magnitude quake struck 32 kilometers southwest of Maasim, Sarangani at 7:37 a.m., triggering multiple aftershocks across parts of Mindanao.

Authorities warned that additional aftershocks remain possible in the coming days.
Phivolcs said the data was based on its automatic solution, which provides preliminary seismic readings that may be subject to revision following further analysis./dp

The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.

The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
