Nationals log second victory

THE SMART-GILAS Pilipinas roared to its second straight win as it demolished Indonesia, 80-52, in the Seaba qualifying tournament for the FIBA Asia Cup in Chiang Mai, Thailand yesterday.

It was once again a complete and total team effort for the Nationals of head coach Jong Uichico as five players tallied double-digits in scoring led by the 15 of current Alaska Aces wingman and Gilas pioneer Mac Baracael.

Former San Beda guard Garvo Lanete finished with 14 even as Chris Tiu and naturalized center Marcus Douthit each had 13 markers. Lanete’s teammate on the Red Lions Dave Marcelo also added 11 points.

The Gilas leaned on a hot start as it led, 21-8, and steadily buried the Indonesian team with an all-around effort that saw the team dominate every statistical category.

The Nationals shot 58 percent  from the field and outrebounded their opponents, 35-28. and outpassed them as well, 21-9. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
