Tsunami waves hit 6 areas after Mindanao earthquake, says Phivolcs
MANILA, Philippines — Tsunami waves were recorded in six areas in the country after the Magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off Sarangani province on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the tsunami waves were recorded in these areas:
- Maasim, Sarangani: 7:42 a.m.
- Kiamba, Sarangani: 7:44 a.m.
- Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat: 7:59 a.m.
- Mati, Davao Oriental: 8:19 a.m.
- Zamboanga City: 8:32 a.m.
- Tandag City, Surigao del Sur: 8:45 a.m.
Phivolcs said the height of tsunami waves varies, the highest being 1.4 meters above the normal tides.

As of posting, the agency said the tsunami warning has not yet been lifted.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs recorded 138 aftershocks as of 11:00 a.m.
Of these aftershocks, only nine were felt, ranging from magnitudes 1.3 to 6.7.

HELP MINDANAO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS
The Inquirer Foundation is calling for support for communities devastated by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao.
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the foundation is amplifying appeals for food, clean water and other critical assistance for affected families.
Donors may send contributions directly to the Philippine Red Cross through its official transfer channels, the complete list is available on the PRC’s Facebook page.
The Philippine Red Cross has activated its emergency fund campaign and deployed teams on the ground to provide medical services, distribute relief goods and extend psychosocial support to affected families.
