Pagasa: Habagat to bring rains over Luzon, soon to weaken

MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” is expected to bring rains over Luzon on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the southwest monsoon will affect northern and central Luzon.
Pagasa said, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are forecast to experience “occasional rains.”

Heavy rainfall from 50 to 100 millimeters is anticipated in the two Ilocos areas, Pagasa added.
It also warned of “cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms” in Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas and the rest of the Ilocos Region.
Meantime, state meteorologists noted that the southwest monsoon is expected to weaken soon.
“We could see that the southwest monsoon, that began weeks ago, we’re expecting it will slightly weaken,” Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina reported.
Consequently, Badrina said, there would be less rains affecting the country.
No low-pressure area and tropical cyclone is being monitored by Pagasa. /das
