Students bag award in CyberFair contest

The senior and junior high school students of the Centre for International Education (CIE) Main Campus in Cebu City won Platinum Award in the 2011 International Schools CyberFair competition by GlobalSchoolNet.

Their research project, “Manila Educational Tour” bested other participants in the Historical Landmarks category.

CIE students have been participating in the Cyberfair since  2003.

Since then, they have been in the win column several times.

The school earned gold honors in 2004 in Local Attractions category for “Cebu – Trippy Bai!” and in 2005 in Local Specialties category for “Simply Cebu; Silver honors in 2003 in Local Music category for “Sinulog: One Beat, One Rhythm, One Nation” and in 2006 in Art category for “Cebu – A Self-Portrait;” and an honorable mention in 2007 in Local Specialties category for its entry “Litson.”

This year, the students finally hit Platinum.

In the competition, the students conducted research on their communities and published their findings in the Internet.

Students evaluated each others’ projects using a tool designed by GlobalSchoolNet,  a web-based worldwide nonprofit educational organization.

The top 40 entries were reviewed by international judges.

Now on its 15th year, the competition has engaged more than 2.5 million students from 45,500 schools across the world in e-learning projects in academic areas like science, math, literacy and communication skills. It aims to  foster teamwork, civic responsibility and collaboration, encourage workforce preparedness and create multi-cultural understanding.

Recognition is given to schools for the best projects in eight categories—Local Leaders; Community Groups; Business Organizations; Local Attractions; Historical Landmarks; Environmental Awareness and Issues; Local Music, Culture and Art Forms; and Local Specialties, Sports and Health.

Contest judging takes place online.
