ILAGAN, Isabela, Philippines—Eight Army soldiers were hurt early Wednesday morning when their truck, trying to avoid a motorcycle, hit a tree and fell into a ditch along the national highway in Cordon, Isabela,  police said.

SPO4 Bernardino Labog, Cordon police chief investigator, said the soldiers came from Mankayan, Benguet, and were on their way to the 5th Infantry Division headquarters in Gamu town in Isabela when their driver avoided hitting a motorcycle after it overtook another motorcycle in Barangay Taringsing at 5 a.m.

Labog said the truck, which was carrying 15 soldiers, swerved and hit a tree and fell into a ditch.

The eight injured soldiers were taken to a hospital in Cordon. Five of them were released after treatment.
