“NOW, THEREFORE, I, FERDINAND R. MARCOS, JR., President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Wednesday, 27 May 2026, a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eid’l Adha,” it also read.
The document was signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on May 21.
Eid’l Adha is one of the two major Islamic feasts, alongside Eid al-Fitr. It commemorates the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim, who, according to Islamic tradition, was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to God’s command before being stopped and provided with a ram instead.
Observed according to the Islamic lunar calendar, the occasion symbolizes faith, sacrifice, generosity, and compassion for those in need. /mr
