‘Perfect race’ for Timex Run on Aug.

Organizers of the upcoming Timex Run have promised to put up a perfect race this Aug. 19 starting at Osmeña Boulevard, fronting the Cebu Normal University.

Race director Rio dela Cruz will be handling the event and will have a strong support crew headed by well-known event organizer Ricky Ballesteros and celebrity Anthony Pangilinan.

The three, together with Pangilinan’s wife Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, were present during yesterday’s launching of the race at the Cebu Parklane International Hotel.

“We are very dedicated to making this race perfect by giving participants  what they need,” said Dela Cruz. “Timex also has already established a brand for world class athletes and we want to showcase it to Cebuanos.”

“We will do our best to make this running event fun and memorable for the runners,” added Ballesteros, who is known for spearheading the annual world class Sinulog Festival.

The Manila leg of the race also handled by Dela Cruz was able to gather 6,000 runners, including Timex endorser and celebrity Piolo Pascual.

Dela Cruz is also optimistic that the Cebu leg will have the same support the Manila leg got.

“The running community in Cebu is growing every year. I am very happy because everyone is getting fit and healthy,” said Dela Cruz.

The next leg of the race will be in Davao on Aug. 26.

The run will actually be held simultaneously with the 7th University Run of the Run for Sight Foundation and Cebu Doctors’ University.

But Dela Cruz and his camp are not worried since both races have their own followers. The University Run will start at the CDU campus in Mandaue City while the Timex Run will be held in Cebu City.

Categories offered in the Timex Run will be 5k, 10k and 16k.  Cash prizes await top three placers in each category.

Registration is ongoing at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) and at the Active Zone of the Ayala Center Cebu. Registration fee is pegged at P600 for the 16k, P500 for the 10k and P400 for the 5k.
