CFA election set on July 14

AN ELECTION will be held for the seat vacated by former Cebu Football Association (CFA) president Richard Montayre in the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Board of Governors (BOG).

PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta, who just arrived from Europe, said the election will be on July 14 before the PFF BOG meeting.

The election will be between Iloilo Football Association president Joseph Gensaya and new CFA president Pericles “Ricky” Dakay.

The voters will be all Visayas football association presidents—Dick Emperado of the Negros Oriental Football Association, Charlie Cojuangco of the Negros Occidental Football Association, Dan Palami of the Leyte Football Association, Gensaya and Dakay.

An election will be necessary because there are four seats allocated for the Visayas in the PFF board while there are already five FAs in the Visayas. Only four seats are also allocated each to Luzon and Mindanao.

The nominees will only be between Iloilo and Cebu because the three other FAs are already members of the board.

Aside from electing a new member to the Board, Araneta will also be appointing a new chairman for the PFF grassroots and youth development committee, another position which Montayre will be relinquishing.   /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
