THE Global Business Power Corp. and its subsidiaries Cebu Energy Development Corp. and Toledo Power Company planted the 79,000th Kabilin tree last June 28 in barangay Gen. Climaco (Malubog), Toledo City.
Under the “Kabilin” program, Cebu Energy and Toledo Power together with the Toledo city government and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) undertook the conservation of the Malubog Watershed focusing on agro-forestry and biodiversity conservation.
Kabilin is the Visayan word for “legacy,” which is translated to Global Power’s environmental and livelihood development projects for the community.
The Malubog Watershed Conservation Project initially targeted the planting of 79,000 trees on the 100-hectare site within a three-year period.
Barely two years after the first seedlings were planted during the project launching last Aug. 9, 2010, the final Kabilin tree was planted to coincide with the Environment Month celebration.
