Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia welcomed the statement of support of Bakud (Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya) Party for her senatorial bid.
“I really thanked the Bakud leadership for the support of my senatorial bid,” Garcia said.
“I am thankful that in spite of our local realignment, Cebuanos would be united when it comes to national matters.”
Bakud passed a party resolution last week approving its new alliance with the administration Liberal Party (LP) for the 2013 election.
It also said Bakud would still endorse Garcia’s senatorial bid.
The June 28 resolution said “Bakud firmly believes that the candidacy for senator of Garcia will not only ensure representation in the Senate for Cebu, the Visayas and Mindanao but will effectively contribute to the rapid development of the country.”
The Durano-led party said it will support Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale and Cebu LP’s gubernatorial candidate Hilario “Junjun” Davide III next year
In a separate interview, Magpale said that supporting Garcia was a “unanimous” decision among party members.
Provincial Board (PB) member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca said that there was no reason why they could not support Garcia’s bid in the Senate.
As head of the Philippine Councilors League Cebu Chapter, Meca said that Garcia has been very supportive of all their activities and requests. “so it doesn’t make sense if we won’t support here.”Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
